Califone at the Hideout this Sunday - Jan 27th

If I lived in Chicago, this is where I'd be Sunday night.  If you happen to be there this weekend - go and make me jealous.

Our household lost a sweet tomcat.

Multimedia message
Goodbye little Crow.  God, I love this cat.

We buried him at my sister's place in NJ, thankful that adrenalin burst led to being able to dig a grave in the frozen soil.  We set a lantern on the mound, lit the chiminea for warmth and kept incense burning on the site while throwing back whiskey, anointing Crow's marker with it.  Don't fix your male cat.  We learned, this fucking  way, that fixing them gives them a good chance of eventual renal failure.  He was seven, his body fought with its youth and strength to live through the verdict nature had already made, and it was an ugly painful way to die.  I was there for his birth.  I cut him out of the birth sack, I held him and cleared his throat of gunk so he could breathe.  Monday, I watched him die, and I miss him.

destroying work & updating the charcoll.com site

I just put these last works in progress back a bit after a series of really bad decisions today.  I'm stepping away from the easel for a few hours.  Nothing good.  I'll post the works on paper i plan to work on this afternoon if for no other reason than to keep myself from further messing up the five paintings I've got going by picking up a brush again.   I will at least wait until sunset to see if the change in light helps my decision making.

I have, however, finally started chipping away at the wages of time on the woefully out of date site for the Chicago artists' collective, charcoll.com.
